If you’re doing stem cell research, the best conference to attend is International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) annual meeting. This is the biggest and most representative meeting of the year. I didn’t attend ISSCR meeting this year, but i eagerly looked for all possible information about it from the Web. First of all, I was following all updates via twitter, because it’s a real time conference coverage. Secondly, I was looking for blog posts with original content, because I was hoping to see interesting and independent opinions about the conference. I’ve aggregated tweets and the most interesting blog posts below:
This widget doesn’t fit all tweets, so in order to read all updates use #ISSCR2011 hashtag on twitter.
Researchers rebut critiques of stem cells derived from adult cells (Nature News Blog)
Live from Toronto, the home of this year’s ISSCR (The Cell Culture Dish)
Top News from ISSCR today: exciting stuff! (Knoepfler Lab Stem Cell Blog)
That’s all guys. All about biggest (~4k attendee) conference in stem cell research field. I hope we will get more interesting blog posts in next couple of days.
My humble opinion about ISSCR 2011 coverage:
- The vast majority of #ISSCR2011 tweets came from companies and organizations, but not from independent individuals (grad students, postdocs and professors). Last year was the same trend.
- Stem cell researchers don’t want or don’t know how to use twitter for conference real time coverage.
- I’d love to see more “high value tweets” from bench researchers and from individuals, who are not associate with companies and organizations.
- I’d love to see more coverage by blogs with original content. I think it’s really important.
