I’d to share a lecture given by John Dick – one of pioneers of cancer stem cell (CSC) reserach . The lecture was recorded on 100th annual American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) meeting, held in April 2009.
I’d like to highlight some important points from his talk;
- 1. Cancer stem cell (CSC) concept evolve with development of new assays.
2. Assessment of CSC in xenotransplant models is still “gold standard” assay.
3. There is no perfect xenotransplant assay for validation of tumorogeneity of CSC and it’s good to check your findings in few of them.
4. Genetic lineage (or clone) tracking assay should be used to validate CSC properties on single cell level and CSC heterogeneity.
